Sweet and Salty Kelp Popcorn seasoning (and other ideas)

At last week's Mai Kai sessions, we demoed how to easily make your popcorn at home! Find our recipe here: Mai Kai Homemade Popcorn Recipe

We asked our Mai Kai whānau how they like to flavour their popcorn and we got some pretty unique answers... We even got to try a super delicious Kelp seasoning based flavoring that Gretta thought up, which gave a sweet and salty taste we had to share:

2parts Kelp seasoning, 2 parts Icing Sugar and 1/2 part Salt. Thats it! Simply combine the ingredients to your liking and sprinkle over your freshly popped popcorn. A sweet and salty taste you won't forget.

Our Mai Kai community gave us their thoughts too- here are some of the highlights.

"I'm so basic, I just do salt or icing sugar" YUM, a classic.

"Lot's of butter" Mmmm, another classic that can't be forgotten! With butter you don't even really need to pop the popcorn in much oil- the buttery the better hey!

"Maple syrup is really good...and butter of course" Maple syrup is such a good idea, never would've thought of it.

"I sprinkle smoked paprika on mine" Ooooh that is a great idea! Could even add a bit of icing sugar to create a sweet flavour but with some zing!

"A bit of Coconut oil" We are super curious to try this one- how creative!

Let us know how you like to season your popcorn and tag us in your photos, we always love to see how our Mai Kai whānau use their kai.
